You know those movies were the husband is driving like a crazy person to get to the hospital so his wife doesn't have to give birth in the car? Well that happens in real life too, cause it happened to me. Let me start from the beginning.
Thursday afternoon I had my 38 week appointment and was told I was at a 3 and about 90% thinned. I had my doctor strip my membranes, (it sometimes helps get labor started for those who don't know) it worked with Haiven so I thought I would give it another try. Well, to my luck, it worked again. That evening and throughout the night I was having minor contractions. Painful enough to were I didn't get much sleep. They continued to increase throughout the day Friday and by that evening I was pretty sure he was coming that night. We arrived at the hospital around 10 PM and they checked me and said I was still only at a 3 which was upsetting because I was having some painful contractions for most of the day. A 3? How could I still only be at a 3? They said I could stay for an hour and see I progressed any. After an hour they checked again and still no change. Boo! So I got out of the bed and Dan and I did the wandering around the hospital routine to see if that would help any. By this time my contractions were so painful but I was determined not to be sent home so I kept going. I swear we did about 50 laps around the dang place. Well, they checked again and to my dismay, no change. The nurse said I could stay but they would have to start me on pitocin to get things moving faster. I didn't want to do that so we decided to go home. The car ride was awful and so painful, I had no idea how it could get any worse than what I was experiencing. I was already dreading the car ride back to hospital. When we got home I got in the tub and just cried. I was sitting there thinking how can I go through this pain any longer? After about 45 minutes of hell I got out, got dressed and sat on our bed not knowing what to do. A minute or two later my water broke and we were off to the hospital once again. The car ride being just as horrible as I anticipated. After running a few stop signs and red lights we arrived back at the hospital. I wobbled in hoping for an epidural but as soon they checked me they said I was ready to deliver. Panic set in. I had heard stories that pushing was the most painful part without an epidural. The nurses rushed to get everything ready and the doctor came in the room looking quite surprised that I was back so soon. I heard him say the pain won't stop until he's out. I pushed for two contractions (which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be) and the little guy was here and the pain instantly gone. It was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. With Haiven I was numb from the epidural for hours and hours after I had her. This time I was able to get up and walk around after only about a half hour. I didn't tear at all and really wasn't in much pain and I healed a lot faster. All in all it was a great experience and I really am leaning more towards another natural birth the next time around. ;)

Haiven was a little hesitant at first but got over that pretty quickly. She sure loves her new brother! :)

Yay! Love all the pictures. Quite an amazing birth story as well. SO glad that it turned out the way that it did. (Although giving birth in the car is an amazing birth story too. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe is absolutely perfect!! Congratulations on another beautiful baby!
ReplyDeleteYes, very gorgeous. What a beautiful story. And good choice not going with the Pitocin. I had a bad experience with it with my first child. ♡
